Cincinnati Reds 2011 Opening Day

This years opening day featured the usual Findlay Market Parade and other festivities the likes that only an opening day in Cincinnati can bring. The weather was a little on the cool side but not so much that it dampened spirits. The Reds however were very cool, trailing the Milwaukee Brewers the whole game until the bottom of the ninth inning when Ramon Hernandez hit a walk off two-out, three-run homer, giving a 7-6 win to the Cincinnati Reds and capping off another exciting opening day in Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Reds Baseball Opening Day 2010

Here are a few panos from the opening day parade and fans going into the Great American Ball Park. It was a most beautiful day which brought out a record crowd to view the parade with estimates of around 100,000 people lining the streets. You couldn’t go wrong by wearing red since both the Cincinnati Reds and their opponent, the St Louis Cardinals have red as their color.

Rubber Duck Regatta 2009

Every year during the Labor Day holiday weekend a local radio station hosts an end of the summer blow out party on the banks of the Ohio River. One of the events is a Rubber Duck Regatta that benefits the local Free Store Foodbank. To publicize the event there is a giant inflatable rubber duck on top of the Wegman Building along Interstate 75 just north of downtown Cincinnati. I was wondering what kind of view the duck has and now I know and so can you by viewing this panorama. A special thanks to Scott Wegman for getting me up there.

Dervish, Dublin Irish Festival

Enjoy this Pano from the Dublin (Ohio that is) Irish Festival taken on Saturday evening August,1 2009. The band is the great traditional Irish band Dervish. This pano was shot during a more subdued moment but by the end of the set the fairly sizable crowd was hoppin’. The Dublin Irish Festival is one of the larger Irish festivals in the mid-west.

St. Leon Pole Raising 2008

Every 4 years, on the 2nd Saturday before the presidential election, the community of St. Leon, Indiana continues the tradition of the Pole Raising to commemorate the presidency of Andrew “Old Hickory” Jackson. Once a common occurrence, St. Leon is believed to be the only place where you can see the pole raising today. The locals head to the woods in the morning to cut down a tall hickory tree. Then drag it back to town for a short parade featuring a steam powered tractor hauling the tree behind. Next some political speeches and rallying followed by the raising.
