“The Queen of the Missions” is another title for this beautiful Church, the 10th of 21 Franciscan missions in California. Founded on December 4th, 1786, it was Padre Fermin Francisco de Lasuen, successor of Padre Junipero Serra who died 2 years earlier, who consecrated the grounds. Mission Santa Barbara is the only mission to remain under the leadership of the Franciscan Friars since the day of its founding. It is now a vibrant parish and popular tourist destination.
