: Lots of Steps

Cincinnati, on the banks of the Ohio River, sets in a valley and is surrounded by hills. There are several sets of long stairways around town, some still maintained, a lot have disintegrated. These date from the earlier days of the city before car travel was practical. This was how people got up to the “new” neighborhoods up on the hills. Here is one of the longer sets, part maintained, part disintegrated. The bottom part is still maintained and has about 200 steps from W McMicken Ave up to Fairview Park Rd, across Fairview the steps used to continue up to Warner St. This set is now closed and decaying. Located in central California, Sequoia N.P. is home to some of the largest trees in the world. Sequoia N.P. is the second oldest national park in the United States. It is also home to the tallest mountain in the United States outside of Alaska, Mt. Whitney. Sunset over the Painter’s Shack

The small building in the foreground, the Painter’s Shack, is about a 1 mile hike up a gravel road from the campus of Thomas Aquinas College. A favorite haunt of the students, it also is a great spot to get a really nice view of the surrounding countryside, especially at sunrise or sunset.

On Chimney Top

Chimney Top is a formation in the Red River Gorge, KY. Here it looks like a large rock ship plowing it’s way through the green ocean of the forest. You can see Half Moon Rock off in the distance. If you like interesting rock formations, hiking, rock climbing, etc. this is the place to visit.

Natural Bridge, Kentucky

The Natural Bridge is the most visited arch in the area. It is the centerpiece for the Natural Bridge State Park in Kentucky. It is accessible by trail or by a sky-lift. Lots of other great activities in the area for visitors.

Cumberland Falls, Kentucky

Cumberland Falls

Sometimes called the “Niagra” of the South, Cumberland Falls also claims to be the only place in the western hemisphere to be able to see a “moonbow” during every month’s full moon in the mist from the falls. I wasn’t there at the right time to see the moonbow, but a trip to Cumberland Falls is worth it for all the scenic beauty in the area.

Yahoo Arch and Falls, Kentucky

This is a very dramatic arch accompanied by 2 very large rock shelters on 2 levels with the arch in between. Yahoo Falls is the highest waterfall in Kentucky.
